Sierra opens, Mendocino Farms sets date
Also, last Yolo County Rite Aid closes, and rumors about another Davis coffee shop
Happy Sunday! My recent traveling caught up with me; I have my first case of Covid. Symptoms are mild – and I’m stuck on a tropical island. Darn. I hope to share some more travel photos in my next post.
Meanwhile, here’s a quick column to catch up on some breaking news.
→ The wait is over: The discount outdoor retailer Sierra opened Saturday in South Davis. It’s at 2107 Cowell Blvd., in Oakshade Town Center.
The merchant offers a wide selection of active and outside apparel, footwear, and gear for the whole family. It says its prices are 20 to 60 percent less than department and specialty stores.
“Sierra supports everything from cycling across the Davis greenbelt to casual pickleball matches and sunny afternoons in the garden,” a news release said.
It fills the 21,001-square-foot space last occupied by OfficeMax. Sierra’s Davis hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
As part of the grand opening – and to demonstrate its investment in the community – the company made a $10,000 donation to the nonprofit Empower Yolo. The money is designed “to advance the organization’s mission to provide vital services such as emergency shelter, counseling, legal support and crisis intervention to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and related abuse.”
