I got to preview the new Japanese restaurant that’s filling part of the former Season’s Kitchen & Bar space at F and First streets in Davis.

Show Izakaya started its soft opening over the weekend. Davis residents Wendy Wu and her husband Damon Bai also own Four Teasons, a coffee and tea house at 620 W. Covell Blvd. that just changed its name from Akira. Their original plans were to name the restaurant Akira, but Wu was worried that people would think they sold boba tea. They previously owned a Japanese restaurant in Palo Alto: Odori Sushi.

Show Izakaya is waiting for its liquor license before having its grand opening. When that’s official, it will sell beer, wine, sake and offer a full bar. The food menu includes sushi, sashimi, nigiri and sushi bowls, ramen, teriyaki and curry plates, gyoza and more.

Wu said they will add yakitori – skewered, grilled chicken and other meats that are izakaya staples – after the official opening. She also plans to offer desserts like black sesame brownie cake, matcha cake and coconut pudding, a popular item at their cafe.

The restaurant is open from 4 to 9 p.m. daily for the soft opening. UPDATE: The owners are asking diners to make a reservation by emailing showizakaya@gmail.com. It will add lunch service for the grand opening, expanding the hours to 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wu said she’d let me know when the liquor license comes through.

Show Izakaya takes up half of the former Seasons restaurant space. The back side, at 102 F St., will become an Orangetheory Fitness, which could open this spring.

→ West side’s story: Readers have been generous with the tips about Westlake Market, which officially changed ownership when escrow closed on Thursday. I checked it out today, along with its new taqueria.
