→ Al fresco: Outdoor seating is back up at Woodstock’s Pizza in downtown Davis, with plans to add more. This week, the city of Davis approved applications from Woodstock’s and Red 88 Noodle Bar, and is working with Temple Coffee to add some as well.
A block of G Street in downtown Davis has been closed to vehicles since 2020. After deciding to keep it that way, the city used $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to improve it, adding platforms on each side of the street, lighting, and some furniture.
It was fenced off for months during construction. Meanwhile, the city worked on updating its code to create a Downtown Outdoor Dining Program, where businesses could rent space on the G Street platforms and on sidewalks around town. It created design standards for furniture and layouts, to ensure safety and accessibility, and create a consistent look.
The construction project was completed in January. Though Woodstock’s and Red 88 immediately applied to rent adjacent dining space, it took seven months to approve.
