→ Wayback waylaid: The Wayback Burgers won’t open this month in The Marketplace. It’s at 1351 W. Covell Blvd., Suite A, in Davis, between See’s Candies and Petco.

I met one of the owners on Wednesday. He said it likely won’t open until August. On June 10, a spokeswoman for the company thought it would happen this month.

Vergus Davis Jr. and his wife Binta Davis of Vacaville own the Davis franchise. They are also looking to bring a Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop and Wing Zone to the area – somewhere between Vacaville and Davis. Meanwhile, they have a What Now restaurant that will open in Houston this fall. Since 2020, they’ve run an Amazon delivery business. He’s a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy who works remotely in human resources.

Wayback is based in Connecticut. It has more than 170 restaurants in 35 states and at least 20 countries. The menu typically features burgers, cheesesteaks, sandwiches, hot dogs, chicken tenders, salads, sides and milkshakes. Learn more on its website.
