The ARCO gas station at 4880 Chiles Road in Davis has been open for a while. But the adjacent ampm mini mart is stalled.
The 2,832-square-foot convenience store has looked finished for about 18 months. Although an attendant at the station reported that it was waiting for city permits, city records don’t back that up.
According to the city of Davis, the owner let a 2021 building permit expire. (They are good for a year.) When they paid to reinstate the permit on June 18, 2025, the city noted that this was their last extension.
“If they schedule an inspection, and it is approved, that will extend the expiration date of the building permit to be one year from that date of the approved inspection,” Public Information Officer Barbara Archer explained. She said there have been a handful of public works permits approved and issued for the site but the work has not been performed, as far as the city knows.
