Mendocino Farms opened to the public today in The Davis Collections. The sandwich and salad place is at 875 Russell Blvd. in Davis.
On of my proxies, Chris Macias, went to Monday’s soft opening. He called it a “bougie Panera.”
“People in line were saying that ‘Mendocino Farms’ sounds either like an organic grocery store or a cannabis dispensary,” Macias said.
He and others report that the portions are generous, and the ingredients are high quality. He enjoyed the couscous salad, “which had a nice spice, without going overboard. (And) the pomegranate mint lemonade definitely hit the spot, especially on a 100+ degree day.”

I appreciate Macias and my other stringers, tipsters and friends who are helping me confirm news and get local business photos as I travel. (I have a long column today but will include some more travel photos soon. I am writing this from Fiji.)
The restaurant, which calls itself “Mendo Farms” is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Though many stores and eateries are not yet open, parking a car at the center is already a challenge.
