→ And first, coffee: I spoke Thursday with the managing partner of World Traveler Coffee Roasters, the coffeehouse taking the former Common Grounds Coffee space in South Davis. Yaniv Rosenberg said he hopes to have the Davis cafe open in the first quarter of 2025.

The chain started in April 2019 in Roseville, where it houses its roasting facility. It’s since added cafes in Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Midtown Sacramento and Downtown Commons, with a sixth opening Aug. 31 in Granite Bay. He said it was customers at his two Sacramento stores who have been pushing for a Davis location, along with requests by email.

“I love Davis. I go there a lot,” Rosenberg said. “It’s a vibrant community. They are diverse. There are young people, students, families. We have a lot to offer this community. And we are excited.”

The 1,809-square-foot site includes a cafe and patio. It’s a little larger than its typical store of 1,200 to 1,500 square feet, “which is great, because I know Davis customers love to sit down and meet and learn and read.”

Common Grounds closed in August 2023 after more than 20 years. The site is at 2171 Cowell Blvd., Suite F, in South Davis’ Oakshade Town Center.

Rosenberg said he’s not worried that another coffeehouse couldn’t make it in that space. “The experience of one business doesn’t reflect how we will do. Everything has opportunities and challenges.” He said they will adjust to the needs of their customers, and offer a larger menu of food and drinks.

World Traveler is so named because it roasts its own beans, sourced from all over the world. “We are intentionally roasting profiles for flavors we love,” he said.

It also offers a variety of house-made baked goods as well as light sandwiches, paninis, salads and desserts. “The menu is wide, starting with our coffee varieties and specialty lattes.”

Also, “We have some of the more unique desserts in the area,” he said, citing “beautiful mousse cakes” and more. “Everything we do is from scratch with the best ingredients.”

The company offers online sales of coffee, tea and merchandise, as well as coffee-delivery subscriptions. Visit its website to learn more.
