Grand opening announced for The Davis Collection

Brixmor Property Group has announced the grand opening of The Davis Collection.
According to a news release, the event, “The Davis Collection Unwrapped,” will be a community celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 835-885 Russell Blvd. in Davis. The mall replaced the former University Mall.
“This family-friendly celebration is an opportunity for the community to experience everything The Davis Collection has to offer,” the news release said. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring remarks by Gregory Finley, president of the west region for Brixmor, and Davis Vice Mayor Donna Neville. There will also be live music by local acoustic blues band Chicken & Dumpling, tastings, store promotions, Kona Ice shaved ice, face painting and other activities. The first 100 guests will receive a free commemorative bag.
So far, participating businesses and activities include:
LaserAway, with complimentary personalized assessments, same-day treatments, and special offers for new patients. The skincare and hair-removal business opened in July.
Nordstrom Rack, with a photo booth, treats and a $500 gift card giveaway. The store was the first new one to open in May.
Trader Joe’s with product samples.
PetSmart, with coupons, goodie bags and a deluxe raffle basket. The store opened in July.
Cold Stone Creamery, with ice cream samples. No word on its opening date.
Fluffy Fluffy soufflé desserts, with branded swag and spin-to-win prizes. Its debut plans have not been publicized.
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, with T-shirts and stickers. The restaurant is hoping to open in late October.
Paris Banh Mi, with in-store coupon offers. No opening date set.
Shah’s Halal Food, with free platters from 4 to 6 p.m. It hopes to open Sept. 1, depending on inspections.
The Melt, where participants can enter to win food for a year, plus spin-to-win and other offers. A spokeswoman for the restaurant said they expect it to open in mid-September but have not locked in a date.
Urban Plates, with samples of Thai chicken salad, chocolate chip cookies and more. No word on its opening date.
88 Bao Bao with a coupon offer. No opening date announced.
Additional retailers and activities might be added as the event approaches. Other stores that have opened in the center include J.Crew and Ulta Beauty. Those not mentioned but still anticipated are Mendocino Farms (opening Tuesday), Calicraft Brewing Company, Good Friends Hawaiian Poke, The Old Teahouse, 2nd Street vintage and Tequileros Taqueria. One unclaimed 1,300-square-foot spot remains at the center.
→ Thai next week: The Woodland restaurant Amara will begin its soft opening on Wednesday, with a grand opening planned for next Friday, Aug. 29. It will offer cuisine from Thailand, Laos and the owners’ home country, Myanmar.
It fills the former Saffron Mediterranean and Persian restaurant space at 1392 E. Main St., Suite B.
Owners Sithu Tun and his wife Zin Khine also own Hikari Sushi & Omakase in Davis.
“Amara means everlasting,” Tun said.
There will be a limited menu for its first two days: Wednesday and Thursday. The full menu will debut on Friday. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
“We are planning to open until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday in the future,” Tun said. An alcohol license is the next project. He added that they plan to offer many vegetarian and vegan dishes, and will have gluten-free and halal choices as well.
