Sean Denny calls it his passion project. The graphic artist and owner of Denny Design has a cool new wine bar that he hopes to open early next month in Woodland.

At Dog Gone Wine Bar on First, Denny wants to expose patrons to wine you can’t find in chain grocery, big-box liquor or warehouse stores.

Comings & Goings is reader-supported and ad-free. Keep it going with a paid or founding subscription.

The wine bar is at 422 First St., in the W.G. Hunt Building constructed in 1889. Denny owns the building, which also includes Gallery Coffee Roasters, Woodland-Davis Real Estate, Top Hat Barbers, KLJ Studios photography, and his design studio. It’s just down the street from Kitchen428 Restaurant and Mojo’s Lounge.

Across from Dog Gone Alley, it’s a historic part of Woodland that’s made a big improvement in the last two decades. In the early 2000s when Denny bought the first portion of the building, a former barber tenant called it a skid row.

“I said, ‘This is gonna be nice one day,’ ” Denny said. “(And today) this is Fabulous First.”

He designed the color scheme to add character to the woodwork accents on the brick building, and exposed original cast-iron columns that were hidden behind false facades.
