Happy new year! Thanks for indulging me during the holiday break. It’s a predictably slow business news time, so it’s usually the only vacation I take all year. That said, I I’ve still collected a heap of news nuggets for you today, with more in the queue. Read on.

→ Under new management: Davis’ first pot shop has been rebranded. CLUB420, previously known as F Street Dispensary, is now The Artist Tree. The Southern California chain of cannabis shops also took over the CLUB420 store in Dixon, which is not changing names.

Brothers Rob and Mike Read of Davis Business Enterprises still own the two stores. “The Artist Tree became the managing entity and rebranded the company under their umbrella,” Rob Read said.

The Artist Tree now manages or owns a dozen stores in California. The others are in El Sobrante, Hawthorne, Laguna Woods, Oxnard, Riverside, West Hollywood, two in Fresno, and two in Los Angeles. The Hawthorne and West Hollywood stores also have smoking lounges.

The Artist Tree name refers to its motto of “where cannabis meets canvas.” Its stores and lounges are galleries filled with local art.

“Each of our stores features a rotating lineup of original artwork from local creators, and every piece is available for purchase – directly from the artist. We don’t take a cut, because we believe artists should actually get paid for their work.”

The management change happened a couple of months ago but the signage and website were not updated until now. The Davis store is at 420 F St.; Dixon’s is at 240 Dorset Court.
