The Melt is back in town.

The company had a standalone restaurant in Davis Commons from 2013 to 2015, focusing mostly on grilled cheese sandwiches. It rebranded as a burger-and-sandwich chain, returning in 2022 to that same center at 500 First St. as part of the Local Kitchens food hall. Then, it quietly faded from the lineup.

The chain must believe the third time is a charm. It began its soft opening this week at The Davis Collection, filling a 3,000-square-foot corner space across from J.Crew Factory and PetSmart. Hours are 10 a.m. to midnight daily, with plans to eventually expand to 2 a.m.

Its grand opening starts at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at 865 Russell Blvd., Suite 110. The first 100 people in line that day will receive a free Meltburger.

The menu includes burgers with lots of cheese, an Impossible Burger, a grilled chicken burger with cheese, crispy chicken sandwiches, several grilled cheese sandwich variations, macaroni and cheese, fries, tomato soup, a large or side Caesar salad, a chopped cobb salad, shakes, desserts and drinks.
