The Davis Beer Shoppe announced today that it’s closing after 15 years. Wednesday will be its final day.
Taylor Ramos, owner of the beer store and taproom at 211 G St., posted an announcement this afternoon on its Facebook page:
“It is with a grateful heart that I say that The Davis Beer Shoppe will be closing permanently. Our last day of operation will be Wednesday 9/23. I cannot express enough how thankful I am for the community we’ve been able to foster at the store. Fifteen years of personal relationships, inherited knowledge, shared experiences, laughter and love. I will always fondly remember my tenure in Davis.”
The store opened on March 19, 2011, when craft beer was as popular as ever. In its prime, the taproom and retail beer shop offered more than 650 beers and a few ciders on its shelves and in its fridge. It also featured a rotation of some 20 fresh beers on tap, along with at least one hard cider.
In April, a pre-Picnic Day inspection by Davis Police and state Alcohol and Beverage Control officials found it had been operating since January with an expired alcohol license. After paying its fees and updating its license, it reopened a week later.
In recent days, I have been getting messages from readers who reported that the store’s stock was low, and it was accepting only cash. By Friday, the owner was telling customers that Wednesday would be its last day.
The post continued, “Relatedly, we are still cash only for our last couple of days. However, if you have DBS gift cards they will still be honored. Our shelves are rather depleted, so if you can’t find anything you want, we will refund your gift card, it should be noted that the refund will be returned to the person who paid for it.”
He mentioned that the store was selling glassware, shelving, barstools and other items too.
