Ace, Hibbert properties set to rise
Plus, news on a yogurt shop closure, a doggie day care, a new eatery in Woodland, and the death of a business owner
Some of you have been asking about the long-vacant properties in town. Well, I have news on a couple of them.

Work started June 28 on the former Ace Hardware housewares building at 240 G St. It’s being turned into a mixed-use site with retail on the ground floor and apartments above.
My business column covers housing developments only if a retail project is being replaced or added. This one, and The Lumberyard project I write about next, checks both boxes.
The 22,000-square-foot building will be replaced with a six-story one with about 139,000 square feet. Plans call for ground-floor commercial spaces with six live/work units, and 120 apartments in five levels of residential above. There will be one level of underground parking for 80 cars – some of them stacked with a mechanical parking system. The flats would be a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units.
In a social media post, the city wrote: “Starting June 28, builders will perform some work inside the building as well as removing sections of the roof, and will lend the vacant building out to the Davis Fire Department for some drills the week of July 20.” Demolition is scheduled to begin the week of July 28 and continue for 60 workdays.
During the demo, the sidewalk along the property on Third Street and the alley behind Woodstock’s Pizza will be closed to pedestrians for about 10 days. For safety, parking spaces around the property will be reduced, too, but portions of the G Street lot will remain open.
